some kind of tuxedo

My friend Rebecca, who throws the most awesometastic theme parties, had a "Canadian tuxedo" party on Saturday night - guests were encouraged to wear as much denim as possible. Now, growing up in Alaska, I always called denim + denim a Texas tuxedo. And some of the folks at the party who were from New York called it a Jersey tuxedo. Apparently, this outfit is named after whatever place you feel the need to mock. Go figure.

Anyway, the party was a smashing success, as much denim was in evidence (and a well-timed break from my descent into Master's Paper Madness!). I grabbed every denim thing I had in my closet and called it good, but Rebecca and several of her friends made a special trip to Goodwill, where they purchased the finest denim the 90's had to offer. To wit:

Yes, that is a skort jumper. AMAZING.

Of course, as Rebecca is a loyal reader, we had to do the series of "fashion poses" I always do on my blog....

Ha.

Happy b-day, Rebecca!

TGIF

The debut of the skinny jeans! I'm playing it safe (and warm) by covering up with jeans and a longer sweater, but I think so far I'm a fan.

Not quite sure yet what to do with this new gray drapey sweater. It's a really soft, lightweight knit that's angled long in the front. It came with waist ties which I couldn't make work, so I cut them off and used my black patent leather belt.
I'm looking forward to experimenting with it!

study study study

This is mega-crunch time for the semester (two papers due this morning, two exams in the next three days - aaaack!) so I've been mostly in my pjs for the past three days. I met up with a friend for a study session yesterday afternoon and decided I needed to look cute. You know, for my mental health. Looking cute has been scientifically proven* to be good for your mental health.

So, I decided to give the belted scarf thang another go. I thought this pretty purple pashmina might be a good candidate, since it's simple and lightweight.

In retrospect I wish it were just a bit longer, so I could loop it more loosely. Oh well.
I didn't have a top in a good neutral color with a high enough neck for this look, since I tend to favor scoop or v-necks, so I ended up turning this top around (yet another trick I stole from academichic - God I love that site). The back, now the front, has this pretty crocheted bit. A tank top for modesty/warmth and I was ready to go!

Also, I finally tried pulling my boots on over my jeans! What do you think?

Blue top: Forever 21

*By which I mean, not scientifically proven at all.

late post!

Sorry that the post is a day late; I didn't get back home early enough to take pictures AND post. So, now you get a double surprise! I also figured out a way to make pictures less scattered and more unified!

Before I talk about my clothes, let me just say that yesterday was a bit weird. I went to trivia at a bar in Rochester (which I was an hour and a half early for) thinking I would be helping to run it (you know, training and all), but as soon as I was going to start some other girl walks in, is introduced as Cory, and she does the trivia, and I just sit at the bar and play by myself (which was boring, since this is what happened last week and all the questions were the same). The guy who runs it thought this would be a good way to familiarize myself with the game. So, it was dull, just sitting there alone, answering questions I already knew the answers to. I shouldn't complain too much, as I won a Miller Light Pilsner glass, but really? Did I have to travel nearly two hours just for that?

Anyway, before I left for Rochester I decided to look bar-ready but still cutesy, so I slapped on my sparkly converse sneakers and a sparkly headband (I felt the sparkles lightened the red/black combo which can be a bit severe). At the bar my hair was in a low ponytail with the headband, and I have to say, I think I looked pretty cute.
